We're excited to announce the return of our Storytellers Festival on Sunday, 24 November from 10 AM to 2 PM at The Literature Centre in Fremantle.

Join us for a day of captivating storytelling and creative workshops for all ages! This free event showcases the best of Western Australian storytelling across genres and platforms.

This year's festival promises an unforgettable experience for every family member with FREE workshops led by renowned West Australian storytellers, including Wadjuk Noongar Traditional Owner and author Cheryl Kickett-Tucker, New York Times bestselling cartoonist Gavin Aung Than, and New Nausea's songwriter and musician Albert Pritchard, plus nature play & craft sessions with local occupational therapist Cath Fitz. 

Bookings are essential! Go to Humantix and click 'Get Tickets' and register for every workshop you wish to attend. Each session is limited so every adult and child must register for a ticket for entry.

Enjoy exploring our full bookshop and art for sale. Book signing will take place during the breaks. EFTPOS will be available.

Remember to bring your own snacks and water bottles, with water refilling stations conveniently located around the Centre. Plus The Little Sunshine Coffee Caravan will be selling hot & cold drinks and light refreshments!

10 am | Welcome & Noongar Storytime with Cheryl Kickett-Tucker 

Join Wadjuk Ballardong-Yued-Noongar Traditional Owner and author Cheryl Kickett-Tucker for an interactive storytime that blends family, belonging, and cultural heritage. Experience Noongar culture through stories that invite you to listen, move, and connect.

This is a free workshop for all ages and it runs from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.


11:00 pm | Break & Book Signings


11:00 pm - 2:00 pm | Storytelling Nature Play (drop-in sessions)

Join a creative nature adventure! In this hands-on workshop, create stories and artwork using gum nuts, rocks, and bark. Craft magic wands, stick people, and explore loose parts play. Enjoy a quiet moment in the Nature Library, and uncover hidden gems in a fun game of Nature Bingo.

This is a free workshop with drop-in sessions for all ages and it runs from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.


11:30 am | Noongar Symbols & Storytelling with Cheryl Kickett-Tucker 

Through heartfelt stories of family and culture, Cheryl Kickett-Tucker invites you to discover the meaning of Noongar symbols and the power of stories to connect cultures. Be inspired to craft and illustrate your own tales, and explore how these timeless stories link generations.

This is a free workshop for ages 4-8 and it runs from 11:30 am to 12:20 pm.


11:30 am | Graphic Novel Fun

Join New York Times bestselling cartoonist Gavin Aung Than for a creative workshop exploring the art of graphic novels. Get an exclusive sneak peek at Creature Clinic, his upcoming graphic novel, and learn how to create characters and build a story.

This is a free workshop recommended for ages 8-12 and it runs from 11:30 am to 12:20 pm.

1:00 pm | Draw Cartoon Characters with Gavin Aung Than

Unlock the creative world of Baa Baa Black Belt with New York Times bestselling cartoonist Gavin Aung Than! Learn how to draw Baa Baa Black Belt and his sidekick Pork Chop, while uncovering the behind-the-scenes magic of how Gavin brings his picture books to life through storytelling and art.

This free workshop is recommended for ages 5-9 and it runs from 1:00 pm to 1:50 pm.


1:00 pm | Song Lyric Lab with Albert Pritchard

Join Fremantle-based musician Albert Pritchard for a hands-on songwriting workshop inspired by the idea that songwriting is like an archaeological dig—uncovering hidden treasures within yourself.  Using techniques like stream-of-consciousness writing, gibberish lyrics, and melody-driven word choice, you'll discover new ways to spark creativity. Together, you'll co-create a short song that Albert will record and mix live, sharing the final version with all the participants.

This workshop is recommended for ages 10+ and it runs from 1:00 pm to 1:50 pm.
