Karen grew up in Perth, Western Australia, spending much of her time drawing and writing. Animals were a constant presence in her life, and she's always adored picture books, even creating her own as a child. A highlight was receiving 3rd place in the CBCA Make Your Own Book Competition in Year 8. She was thrilled when her first illustrated book, With Nan (by Tania Cox), received Honour Book in the 2013 CBCA Book of the Year Awards.

Karen enjoys drawing characters of all ages and Australian creatures found in various habitats. Her background in landscape painting often influences her illustrations.

Currently residing in Fremantle, Western Australia, with her family and dog, she works from her home studio overlooking a bird-filled garden. A former primary art teacher, she is passionate about helping children explore their creativity through art.
