Sally Murphy

Sally Murphy knew, from a very young age, that the two things she was best at were telling stories and talking, so she figured that being a children’s author would enable her to do both of those things on a daily basis.

Now Sally lives in rural W.A. with her husband and four of their six children. When she’s not being a taxi driver for teenagers she is a full time writer, speaker and PhD Candidate.

Sally’s books include verse novels Roses are Blue, Pearl Verses the World and Toppling, picture books Do Not Forget Australia, Meet Mary MacKillop and Head Hog and lots of others – over 37 books and counting. Her writing has won awards including the Mary Ryans Award in the Queensland Premier’s Literary Awards, the children’s book category of the WA Premier’s Literary Awards, the Speech Pathologists’ Book of the Year Award and two short listings in the CBCA Children’s Book of the Year Awards.  Her Doctoral studies are focussing on children’s poetry.

An experienced teacher and a lively and entertaining speaker, Sally has spoken at schools and festivals around Australia.  She can talk about anything you’d like –  but she especially loves to talk about books and writing to audiences of all ages.
